Published for the 125th anniversary of the Banco de Portugal, this volume tells us about the genesis of the Banco de Portugal, its relationship with the state and individuals, and about the support provided by the Bank to the country’s economic and financial activities in a difficult period of its history. 

In the introduction, the author also describes, in broad terms, the origin of banking activity and the various attempts to create banks in Portugal. 

An appendix mostly composed of Annual Reports completes the volume.
