Baleizão, the value of memory

I can't remember when 'Baleizão' pricing first appeared in my house but I remember very well my mother using it whenever I wanted something  my parents couldn't afford. She would tell me: You know what, I can't afford that because it costs a lot of 'Baleizão'. Sometimes, when I insisted, she would tell me how much 'Baleizão': 5, 10, 20 or 30 – it depended. 'Baleizão', which my mother used to value impossible things, was an icecream, from a bar of the same name, in the city where I lived, Luanda in Angola. It cost 2.50 escudos!

This is the letter that launches this memory exercise and celebration of life between two friends, exchanging texts, letters, drawings and photos, revealing their childhood of around 50 years ago.
