As part of Lisbon, Ibero-American Capital of Culture 2017, the Money Museum participates in the project entitled ‘Testimonies to Slavery. African memory’ with a themed tour based on a selection of items exhibited. Using the narratives of currencies in their different forms, we aim to understand how the movement of millions of African slaves influenced Atlantic economies and societies from the 15th century onwards.
