How does one explain what Beauty is to children and young people?
From 1929 to 1932, Walter Benjamin wrote broadcasts for German radio aimed at young people. Stories, conversations and conferences that would later be brought together under the title ‘Enlightenment for Children’. In 2001, Gilberte Tsaï takes up this title for a series of ‘little dialogues’ he organises, aimed at young people and their companions, at the Théâtre de Montreuil. Among others, he invites the French philosopher Jean-Luc Nancy who speaks about themes such as God, Love, Justice, and Beauty.
How does one explain what Beauty is to children and young people? Taking advantage of the natural dynamics of acting, and the text of Nancy’s dialogues, beauty is questioned and discussed - a seemingly simple idea, but one that is so difficult to define and characterise.
