Rehabilitation of the old Saint Julian church

The former church will be the starting point to "imagine" the earthquake of 1755, the stories told, and the repercussions of the cataclysm in the History of Lisbon.

The visit will engage the visitor in a multifaceted approach, focused on the cultural, social and political experiences of 18th-century citizens and on the changes brought about by the impact of the event on the architecture the organisation of the city.

East, West. Between here and there

From here to there. From there to here. So begins a story that isn’t quite so linear.

Whether in the form of money or not, many of the Museum’s artefacts allude to the wealth of the meeting between East and West and our fascination with other cultures. Can money unite and not divide?

The rebirth of a city: Lisbon and the earthquake of 1755

The former church will be the starting point to "imagine" the earthquake of 1755, the stories told, and the repercussions of the cataclysm in the History of Lisbon.

The visit will consist of two parts and tackle specific subjects. Taken together, both sessions engage the visitor in a multifaceted approach, focused on the cultural, social and political experiences of 18th-century citizens and on the changes brought about by the impact of the event on the architecture the organisation of the city.
