After the first tours – the background and beginning of the voyage – you now have the opportunity to go on a summing-up tour or consolidate ideas before we carry on navigating.
500 years after the beginning of Ferdinand Magellan’s circumnavigation, we want to better understand its background, consequences and impact. Through a tour cycle that takes place between 2019 and 2022, we aim to answer questions about a journey and a figure that to this day is considered mythical, raising awareness of the geopolitical, economic and social implications of the expedition. After the first tours – the background and beginning of the voyage – you now have the opportunity to go on a summing-up tour or consolidate ideas before we carry on navigating. Discover what led Magellan to offer this project to Charles I of Spain. How was he received in Seville? What were the geopolitical and economic implications of the expedition? Was its purpose to go round the world or find new spice markets? Who financed the mission and how did Portugal react?
