The exhibition brings together 27 works by 27 contemporary academicians at the height of their creativity. Drawing, painting, sculpture and photography express the vitality of the Academy of Fine Arts (ANBA), which renowned Portuguese artists have contributed to with their sculptures and paintings to enhance a collection dating from the 19th century.
Founded in Lisbon in 1836, the Academy aims, by Decree, “To aid in the general civilisation of the Portuguese people, cultivating in all classes a taste for beauty and to develop the gifts of those who apply themselves to such interesting studies.”
In the year we celebrate the bicentenary of the birth of Queen Maria II, the founder of this public utility institution, as well as Banco de Portugal, and dedicate Fine arts of the Academy. Today to her memory.
