500 years of the Magellan Route. This tour aims to answer questions about a journey and figure who to this day is considered mythical.
500 years after the beginning of Ferdinand Magellan’s circumnavigation, we want to better understand its background and consequences. What is the origin of the mission? Was the purpose of the expedition to go round the world or find new spice markets? Why did Manuel I not support the project? What led Ferdinand Magellan, a squire at the court of Manuel I, to offer his services to Charles I of Spain, future Holy Roman Emperor Charles V, in 1517? And what were the geopolitical and economic implications of the expedition?
This tour aims to answer questions about a journey and figure who to this day is considered mythical.
