What would the preacher, Father António Vieira, say today, in this church converted into a museum? Would the works of art inspire oratory? Would he give the same sermon?
In the month of Lisbon's great festival of Saint Anthony, we celebrate the sermon of the unique orator, Father António Vieira, known as 'Grande Pai' ('the Great Father'). He used words to fight the enslavement of the indigenous peoples of Brazil, and preached to the fish, those animals of virtue that symbolise the vice of Man.
What would the preacher say today, in this church converted into a museum? Would the works of art inspire oratory? Would he give the same sermon?
