The Mother and the Sea, Gonçalo Tocha, Documentary, Portugal, 2013 (92 min.)
We go in search of a real and lost myth in Vila Chã, to the beach where the women of the sea known as the 'pescadeiras' ('fisherwomen') may be found, in one of the few places in the world where the skippers are female. But where are they? And where are the 120 fishing skiffs?
Only nine boats and a single fisherwoman survive. Among the intrepid folk of the sea, the film captures the passion for fishing, the passion for the sea.
